October 31, 2026: The Many Faces of Jung in India with Sulagna Sengupta

a virtual event Presented by Southern Arizona Friends of Jung

The Many faces of Jung in India

Oct 31st 10am MST/PHX via zoom

Carl Jung’s links with India, his actual journey of 1937-38, and the evolution of Jungian work in India encloses a complex trajectory, in which synchronicity, encounter of the Other, India’s colonial past and German Romanticism play central roles. The Jung-India relation surfaces points of unity between the two, as well as gaps and differences that Jung experienced between Indian thought and analytical psychology.

This seminar will explore Jung’s relationship with India, and nearly seventy-five years after his journey to India, the author’s own journey with Jung, the theme of cultural crossings, and the experience of encountering the Other. The author will share how her initiation into the Jungian field and individuation path shaped her work in Jungian studies, in which synergies and differences between two traditions, ancient and modern were explored and transformed.

Learning objectives:

The program has the following learning goals:

  1. Participants are introduced to ‘Jung in India’ and the author’s initiation journey
  2. Participants have a comprehensive view of Jung’s history with India and current work
  3. Gain an understanding about cultural crossings and their psychological outcomes
  4. Gain an orientation about the notion of Cultural Other in journeys across borders.
